Gemma's Farm Brings the Countryside to Our Nursery and Reception Children

We were delighted to welcome Gemma's Farm to our school today for a very special visit to our Nursery and Reception classes. The children were thrilled to experience a taste of life on the farm — right here on our school grounds!

The mobile farm set up on the school field early in the morning, and by the time our youngest pupils arrived, there were sheep, goats, chickens, rabbits, ducks, and even a friendly pony ready to meet them. The excitement was infectious as little faces lit up with joy and curiosity.

Throughout the day, children had the opportunity to get up close to the animals, learn about how they are cared for, and even have a go at stroking and brushing them. Gemma and her team were fantastic at engaging the children with fun facts and gentle encouragement, helping even the more hesitant little ones feel confident and included.

This hands-on experience supported our Early Years curriculum beautifully, sparking rich conversations about animal care and life cycles. It also offered valuable opportunities for developing empathy, responsibility, and sensory exploration.

One of the highlights of the day was watching the children gently stroke the soft lambs (including one that was just 17 days old). Many of them couldn’t stop talking about the animals for the rest of the day!

We would like to say a big thank you to Gemma's Farm for bringing this learning experience to our school, and to all the staff who helped make the day run so smoothly. It’s safe to say this was a day to remember for our youngest learners — and who knows, we may have a few future farmers in the making!
